What is Education ??
Is Education means Knowledge?
What i have understood is, Education means to deliver organized knowledge in a systematic way for a specific purpose. No matter if it is religious education or academic education or it is combating education or sports education.
I m going to talk about the academic education in Pakistan.
I have read and heard many people talking about double standard education system in Pakistan, the English medium and Urdu medium. And also about education in Pakistan and abroad.
But i never get the accurate answer of the questions, What education system we need and why and how?
First of all, no matter the education is in English or Urdu language, in a simple Government school or expensive high standard school, if the school cannot make the student a good human then such education is useless. In schools we are taught a number of stories, poems, biographies but I hardly find a teacher telling the students why they are being asked to read that stuff. May be the teachers them self don’t know also. We read, in fact just read, the stories of our heroes, our independence and our past glorious history. But why ?? May be even the people who wrote these also don’t know. Because no any activity or question are put at the end of chapters which can help the student or their teachers to know the reason of the story or article.
As told in the start, Education is delivered with a purpose. So what is the purpose of our education system these days? Do the writers of our academic books claim that, the books are organized in a way that by reading those our nation can get great leaders or devoted scientist or obedient citizens. Then very sorry to say, they live in fool’s paradise.
The teachers are equally responsible. They must understand, the teachers are mostly the first ideal person for their students. So rather that just pushing the students to study only for good marks they must teach them at least two thing, how good citizen behave and what are our responsibility as a nation. Because no matter how many stories or article a student learn, if he/she is not a good citizen, who don’t know how to behave with elders and younger and how to act on public spots ( mean while going to get a ticked should make a que and other such thing), then the education is incomplete.
And the parents also have responsibilities. A good behaving person can become a good student and good national. One thing the parents must teach their children to be loyal to their country and nation and live for the national cause.
So our Education system must be organized with a purpose that we are a nation who has to lead the world and we must learn the knowledge, skills and behaviors of great nation. Our books must be written with this purpose and our teacher must be trained to deliver this and our general life behavior, of which parents has most role, must be helpful and productive. Because if want to live for long then we must look through our education system and go for the changes which are need.

superb thought, I wanted to write over this, but I must appreciate your writing. The main problem is we study for the sake of study and not to get knowledge. No student has ever told me that he is studying Pakistan affairs because he wants to know how we got in here. They just passing classes ’cause one day they have to earn bread as those before them has been doing. Now the things we are taught, I would just focus on one, the Ideology of Pakistan, why we after more than 60 years of education still has to argu and debate on TV channels about our basics and why Jinnah demanded for a separate country. When was the phrase Pakistan ka matlab kia, was added to our text books. Is it really what was it meant to be or a projected vision of a military dictator. There are many things. We just need to focus on, I even feel strange when kids studying in so called modern English medium school, cant even sing national anthem properly, and this is called modernization. Unless we adhere to our basics, roots and education that has a purpose in itself and not a mean to purpose is promulgated, we cant prosper and witness we are not.
Education means lean something, but today era trend is change degree is education if you have a degree you are an educated person. We are built a system, that’s why we blame to system. We are use a system for our interest. We are talking about Pakistan, problem is education system if our education system is up to mark we will be a good nation. We are consider as a fail state we are improve 3 point and at 10th position as a fail state. We spend 0.8% for education and expect good education. Actually In our country lots of substandard school’s are working.
Not a teacher responsible also parents are responsible for that we are not consoling with our children most of time we force to study or join this line.sit with your child and ask what you want. By the way don’t blame to country and education system. My child study in Urdu medium or English medium that’s my responsibility to check about his education. I am not blame to government because at least first I done my responsibility? As a parent our responsibility is just to provide books, arrange a bus for School, and pay a school fee just? Monthly I pay for a fee 10 Rs or 5000 Rs. Our Education system is good or bad, we are avail a maximum? Our individual responsibility to check as a teacher as a parents, brother /sister.
Stop talking and do something.we have ability to do for nation.
Asim,i agree with everything what you are writte here….in my country is exactly the same….in school they teached the story and culture by reading…and this is a big problem in every countrys,because some children they learn just in read,but some others no….
i have the exemple in my family….i like to mutch reading,so it was easy for me to understand in school,because everything what i read stays in my memory….but my brothers it was differente…if you ask them about the story portuguese or from europe,they can not answer because they dont know…still now they hate reading….my little sister she knows something,but not to mutch…..is sad that….the new generation dont know nothing about education…they only care if they are good dressing and where will be the last party…i see that in my little sister and little brother…i pray Allah to give me strong to teach myself my children…dont want they grow up and dont know nothing about from where they come and the culture from his parents culture….
